Broken view: develop module overlaps left side panel

New Here ,
Sep 01, 2017 Sep 01, 2017

From one day to another, in my LR 3.4 I couldn't see the full left side panel anymore. Folder names aren't shown at all, just the number of photos inside. Seems like this text pane is set to a very narrow width. Since the develop module somehow overlaps the side panel, I cannot modify the width or see/reach the settings button - which to my knowledge should be somewhere on the upper right...

I just bought the latest version 6.0 (updated then to 6.12) to overcome this issue, but it didn't change:

lr_issue.gif

Strange thing is, that when I change to another main module (map, book,...) the left panel changes size and is fully visible. Just with develop and library modules I experience this problem.

Anyone can help?! I really cannot browse my photos this way... THANKS!

Please try to reset the preferences: Resetting Preferences in Lightroom CC/6

Sorry, I forgot to mention: I have already tried this. But no effect.

This person experienced similar symptoms recently and solved the problem by reinstalling Windows: Re: Lightroom CC 2015.12 left panel broken .

Before trying that, you might try creating a new user account and seeing if the problem occurs when running LR from within that account.

Thanks for this suggestion! Unfortunately, it didn't help either. I logged in with a new account, but the left panel looked the same...

Reinstalling Windows won't be an option for me. 😞

Anyone can help?!

Try removing ALL of CC with the remove tool: Use the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems

The reboot and install again.

Hi,

I uninstalled LR 3.6 (it was still there) and 6.x. Afterwards I ran the Cleanup-Tool with the createCleanup option. It only lists my older CS4-Suite, the Flash Player, Adobe Application Manager and Id Credentials.

So I skipped this and removed all Lightroom named folders in the Program Files directory as well as in all AppData/*/Adobe folders.

After reinstalling LR 6.0 from DVD I got the same result. Maybe the only thing that changed is that I can change the size of the left panel. But still it seems corrupt - the button on the bottom (I guess its the import button) is incomplete, the folder names are not shown and there is no options button on the top right of the folders panel... So still not usable...

Are there any registry entries? Or any other location where preferences are stored?

Maybe it's some incompatibility with other programs, dlls, etc.?

You already did reset the preferences without success. Maybe completely deleting them and let LR create new ones will help.

How about switching languages to force LR to rebuild the GUI?

... also try to change fonts size in LR just to have it rebuild the GUI.

I tried lots of different (combinations of) options and settings under preferences/interface. I searched all folders and the registry for "lightroom" entries...

But rebuilding the GUI should also happen, when I reinstall the whole program, I guess..?

I just also tried dependency walker on the lightroom.exe. I'm not an expert with that tool, but I haven't found any "strange" path - all the dlls seem to come from standard windows/system32 folders. Is there anything specific, that I could check?

The only thing that I could image is that lightroom depends on some external module to display any kind of tree - all these modules, displayed in the left panel, like the history, collections, folders.. all have that corrupt appearance with a layout that does not fit into the container.

Maybe this external module was updated externally or has been replaced, got corrupt...?

Update:

- I updated my graphics driver

- I reinstalled the Myriad Font (maybe due to the installing and uninstalling (?), Photoshop reported problems with the text engine and Myriad was missing).

LR still looks weird. 😞

Hi benni_h,

I really apologise for the trouble you are facing, As I understand that you facing GUI issue with Lightroom application. The left panel in Lightroom is not showing properly or completely and the develop module is overlapping it. The left panel works fine in other modules and you have already tried so many steps for fixing this issue.

I would suggest you, Turn off the graphics processor from Lightroom performance tab and check if that helps.

Steps: Open Lightroom > Edit menu > Preferences > Performance Tab > Uncheck the GPU > Restart Lightroom.

Let us know if that helps.

Regards,

Mohit

Hi Mohit,

your summary is fine. Unfortunately, it didn't help to switch of gpu acceleration.

Maybe, this observation could help: The collections panel looks ok in all other selected main modules (Map, Book, Print...), but is corrupt for Library and Develop:

What's could make the difference?

Please let know the exact screen resolution of your screen? Also, try and restore the screen resolution back to defaults and check if that makes any difference in Lightroom.

Mohit

Hi Mohit,

I use a screen resolution of 1920x1200. To solve this issue I tried different regular settings and also tried the Windows fail safe mode with low resolution. I'll attach a screenshot here.

lr_issue_lowres.png

Please, is there anything else I could try? I'd really love to start working with the new LR version.
