Bulk updates to Caption and Creator LOST (possibly other metadata too)

If I select multiple images (or all) for a folder or group of folders and apply a change to the CAPTION or CREATOR - then all seems well, but when I deselect and then return to any one of those photos the Update is LOST

I recently updated (12.4) - I use Windows 11 and my data is all stored locally (not on cloud)

Since the update I have discovered that bulk updates (whenever I've selected ALL or multiple images) fail

I primarily use CAPTION but see this fails for CREATOR also (and possibly other fields)

Basically I select all - do the update, It seems OK... Then I select NONE and then select any one of the 'all' i just updated - the update is not there. Sometimes I've seen the update 'stick' but only to the first image that was already selected BEFORE i chose select all...

The worst thing is that until you do this check, it APPEARS as if the update has worked properly and if you are not aware of this, it will mess you up!

Note to attempt to fix this I deleted my preferences in ..\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom\Preferences - NO DIFFERENCE

I spent some time on a support chat with Adobe, they took control of my machine, verified the issue, created a new Catalog - verified issue remained

Now they say they will look into it further and get back to me within 48 hours - so you should already know about it, but I'm sharing here for others to see.

the 'Error' turned out to be a USER error - in the metadata panel Selected Photos should be highlighted for these updates, but I had (somehow) selected Target Photo - I've no idea how this happened, nor why there isn't a warning - but it isn't a Lightroom error so that is GOOD.
