After several days of searching, I discovered Creative Cloud caused my computer to come almost to a complete stop.  I was finally able to remove all apps attached to CC and CC itself, and now my computer is back to normal. Is there some way to run LRC without the crappy Creative Cloud?

No

And none of us have this problem — it may be better to have us help you fix the problem, rather than you just uninstall everything.

When my computer began running slowly, I uninstalled some recently added
apps, with no effect. But I noticed a message appeared sporadically showing
a progress bar and saying something to effect that Creative Cloud requires
fixing. After seeing that several times, I tried to uninstall CC, burt
could not, probably because the computer was running so slowly. A link
shows up to "Learn more about this issue." That took me to a page that
spoke directly about my issue and provided several different options.
Following those directions, I was able to uninstall CC, and immediately my
machine began working normally. I actually purchased a more powerful laptop
(mine is a couple of years old and has an Intel i3 processor, which may be
part or all of the problem. My point is, Adobe openly states that CC can
cause a slowdown and has o[ptions to fix. I wasn't able to find that help
discussion. Anyway, I'll reinstall when I get the new gear.
