I have been running a standalone version of Lightroom 6 on my MacBook Pro for the past few years with no problems.  Does it (the serial number I have) allow me to run it on two separate MacBook Pro's?

I am a complete novice with regards to this as you can probably tell!

Yes, but it depends on the version of MacOS whether or not you'll get it to work on the second machine. Lightroom 6 itself is 64 bits, but both the installer as well as the licensing check are 32 bits, and recent versions of MacOS cannot run 32 bits software anymore.
