Can't import a jpeg from desktop.

Lightroom Classic (latest version) will not import a jpeg from my desktop. In fact I cannot even see the jpeg when I navigate using Lightroom to navigate to the desktop or even a folder on my desktop. I've done this over a hundred times. Is this a setting problem, a bug or something else.

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post if it helps you get responses.

If you're on Mac, make sure you've granted Full Disk Access to LR:
