Can't Import directly from Nikon D810 into LR Classic

I've attached my Nikon D810 to my macbook air and trying to import directly from Nikon D810 into LR Classic. When asked to select a source, my camera doesn't show up in the list to choose from. Any ideas why not? Thanks,

I have a couple of thoughts:

1. Be sure your cable is good. Try another cable and another USB port on the laptop.

2. Check in the menus for a setting for the serial port on the camera that makes it a data connection. I had a D810 many years ago but don't recall the name of that setting. It's probably in the wrench group.

Also, ensure LR is granted Full Disk Access (not Files And Folders) permission:

The consensus/recommended method to import is to use a card reader, not connect the camera directly. Have you tried that?

In all the years I used a D810 I don't think I ever connected the camera. Yes, there was such a setting that KR Seals mentions, but it's some time ago and I don't remember what the default was.

Unfortunately there is no card reader slot on the  MacBook Air 15 inch. But thank you, I used to use the card reader on my older macbooks and I agree that would be the way to go if possible.

Just get a $15 USB-c based card reader. Will be way faster and reliable than importing from the camera.

A USB card reader is what we all use 🙂

Always mention version numbers of both MacOS and Lightroom Classic when you have a question like this. There could be a known issue with a certain version, such as the known issue that existed for MacOS Sonoma 14.2 (fixed in 14.2.1 and higher).
