i suddenly can´t see and find the photos in the folders ( external hard drive) any more. It still shows the foldername, amount of pictures etc... and it say s " no photos in selected folder". any ideas ?
What is your OS and version? As it is an external disk, and if you are on Windows, it may well be that it's access character changed (like from P: to Q:).
Check in the OS (Explorer for Windows or Finder for macOS) if the disk is accessible. If not, please reboot your system and check again!

Did you update MacOS recently? If so, then this may be the cause of the problem: Apple changed the security requirements in MacOS Monterey. Go to MacOS 'System Settings - Security & Privacy' and add Lightroom Classic and Photoshop to "Full Disk Access". Click on the lock icon to unlock the settings, then click on the plus icon to add Lightroom Classic and/or Photoshop if it isn't already listed. If it is listed, then just enable the checkbox.
