Cannot import duplicate images even when 'don't import duplicates' is unchecked

Long story short, my workflow for doing solar time lapse animations has 4-6 iterations of batch processing from various different programs, so to keep track of which step I'm on I rename the files.  However, even when I have "don't import duplicate images" UNchecked, lightroom classic will not let me import any file with a name I've imported before, even if that file was taken on a completey different date and is in a completely different location.

Is there any way to truly disaple lightroom's screening of duplicate imports, since it has no idea what actually is or is not really a duplicate, and thus allow me to import images without having to invent completely novel file names every time?  If the name has been used before, the image remains greyed out and un-importable, even when "don't import duplicates" is unchecked and its clearly a new and different image than before.

I'm on the latest version of lightroom classic, windows 10.

Thanks in advance.
