Restore a recent backup of your catalog file.
The catalog is stored on a seperat HD which has no isues.
One of the most common reason for catalog corruption is a hard disk that is starting to malfunction. You should run diagnostics on it.

Have you said yes to restore?
Do you have a recent backup of your catalog?

If you have set the preferences for LR to back up your catalog each time you exit - or on some schedule, you will probably have a back up somewhere...hopefully on another drive. You can then copy that one to the drive you are working on and see how it is functioning.
Also, try copying the whole Lightroom folder - including your (catalog name) .lrcat file, and the other files in the Lightroom folder, mainly:
(catalog name) helper.lrdata,(catalog name) previews.lrdata, (catalog name)smart previews. lrdata, to another drive and see how it works. That way if there is something wrong with your current external drive, you have just made a copy of the whole LR catalog file and your work should be safe.

Sinced with LR.

You’ve posted to an ancient thread. It is highly unlikely that the issue described in this thread, though not impossible, is the same one you are currently experiencing. Rather than resurrect an old thread that is seemingly similar, you are better off posting to a new thread with fresh, complete information, including system information, a complete description of the problem, and step-by-step instructions for reproduction.
If the issue is the same, we will merge you back into the appropriate location. This thread will be locked.
Thank you!
