I switched  to a larger harddrive for lightroom because my current one was full. I copied all my images and lightroom data. Had ! on some of my images. Called customer support, who proceed to lose my edits, collections, ratings and some images from 6 months back.

I back up after editing, so my question is how do I get my edits and collections back. Thanks for any input.

You need to find a recent backup of your catalog file (before this problem with customer support), unzip it, then copy the unzipped catalog to some new empty folder, then double-click on it to open it. From there, you have to follow the link provided by @GoldingD to fix the ! icons.
