Classic 14.2 freezing in Develop Module

I have just updated to Classic 14.2 using a Windows 11 PC, it works OK in the Library Module, but freezes when I try to do anything in the Develop Module, even as simple as moving from one image to the next. Has anyone had this problem or does anyone have a solution?

@MarvinHeston: "a whole day to recreate my setup from Zero."
I just verified on a test virtual machine that the Cleaner Tool doesn't actually remove LR's catalogs, photos, preferences, or presets, so running it shouldn't be that painful. But to be safe, save away copies of the preferences file and the LR and Camera Raw settings folders:

OK, maybe I'm unclear on what the clearer does. Can I just remove Lightroom, or does it remove LR, PS, PP, etc, etc etc. From my brief reading it looks like it wipes CC and all the apps. So, I have to deal with reinstalling apps, plug-ins, and extensions.

You can select which Creative Cloud apps to uninstall. There are some components shared among the apps (e.g. video), which is why it's most thorough to uninstall everything. LR and Camera Raw share preferences, profiles, develop presets, and the Camera Raw cache, but not code. So I think in this case uninstalling LR and Camera Raw but not the other apps would be good enough.

Another diagnostic step to see if there's some unreported error hanging up the merge:
1. Download and run the DebugView utility from Microsoft:
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/debugview
2. Start Command Prompt and run LR with this command line:
"c:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Lightroom Classic\Lightroom.exe" -tracebacks
3. In LR, do the merge.
4. After the merge freezes, in DebugView do File > Save As to save the logged output to a text file. Attach that text file here.
With some kinds of errors, there will be clues or error messages in the log.

The problem appears to be that the files and catalog reside on an external USB SSD drive.
When I work on an internal SSD it seems to merge fine.
What can you tell me about this?
I'll post more If I learn/Confirm more. It should be noted that I have 5 catalogs that reside on external SSDs and have never experienced this problem with HDRs, Panos, and HDR panos prior to now.

Did you place the catalog folder as well as the photos on the internal drive, or just the photos?
The diagnostic logging above might yield more clues.

So far, I just copied the files in question to internal and created a new catalog. When I have time I will copy the external catalog and files internally, but I'll have to clear some space it is a 1.4TB catalog/images.

@MarvinHeston, try importing the copied photos (on the internal drive) into the main catalog (still residing on the external drive). That will identify whether the issue is specific to where the photos reside or is more general to both the photos and the catalog location.

I cleared an internal drive and copied the catalog and images to that drive.
Started LR on the internal drive and successfully merged images and it all works fine - on the internal drive
Next, I renamed the internal images folder to images.old and restarted LR on the internal drive
Obviously the "files" were missing, so
I attempted to use LR to FIND the missing image files
I can click over to the external drive and folder where the original catalog and image are, but
At this point Lightroom hangs attempting to access the folder on the external drive where the files are located
Next, I exited LR, and Opened the LR catalog on the external drive
and I can access all the images on the external drive
I can export images and process image files on the external drive
However, I can't merge files on the external drive (original problem I reported)
What do I know.
1. The catalog on the external drive works fine... except I'm unable to Merge HDR, Panos, & HDR Panos from the external drive.
2. The catalog on the internal drive works fine and does allow me to create Merges
1. Using the internal catalog, I cannot access the files on the external drive using LR
2. Using the Internal catalog, I cannot import images from the external drive.
3. Essentially LR cannot access the files on the external drive... except with the catalog located on the external drive.
I'm going to try Refreshing the external drive (format) and then copy the files to it again and see if that helps.

Lastest update - I formatted my external 4TB SSD and copied my catalog and files from my internal drive back onto the external drive and now everything works as expected on the external drive, processing, Merging, etc.
Obviously this makes me nervous about the SSD. It's less than a year old and is not heavily used, so I'm hoping that this was just some a minor glitch that was fixed with the format... and won't bit me in the A$$ at some point. Thank you for your help and thoughts. You were helpful in talking through the options for diagnosing the issue.

Very glad you've got it resolved (knock on wood).
LR is not very good at handling unexpected errors from the operating system, including file errors, and it hides the detailed error messages from the user, making such troubleshooting even more painful.
If you start getting bad behavior again, try the diagnostic logging steps I posted above. That might show the low-level operating-system errors and give more insight.

I will try the diagnostic if I see anything again.
To note, I did an import from the images folder on the remote drive and found all the images that "failed to create inside of lightroom". So when it failed and froze LR, it had actually already created the Merged files and saved them to the HD, it just had not reimported them and finished the process.

Many thanks. It seems that plug-in 7 was the problem, I have disabled it and let the developer know.

Peter, On your machine what was Plug-in #7?

@PeterG1: " It seems that plug-in 7 [LR/Transporter] was the problem"
That's very curious. As a longterm plugin developer, I closely monitor this forum for plugin issues, and I've never such symptoms associated with LR/Transporter (or other similar plugins) before. I'm wondering if there was some other change (e.g. LR writing out new preferences after removing plugins) that was the underlying cause. But anything is possible with LR...

I spoke too soon, I am getting the problem again, even with the suggested plug-ins disabled.

I tried your HDR-Pano set on my Windows 11 PC and had no problems with them.
What happens if you select say the third photo in each bracketed set and just Merge -> Panorama the seven files?
Conversely, what happens when you just Merge -> HDR for one bracketed set of three files?

If I just try to merge images to a Pano it hangs.
If I just try to create an HDR from 3 images it hangs.
What I have discovered is that suddenly LRC has a problem with doing this when my catalog and files are stored on an external SSD connected via USB.
If I move the same files to an internal drive the merge as expected. I've not had this problem before. But at least now I know a work around.

That's interesting, but I tried with the catalog and photos on an external USB 3 HDD, not SSD. It Merged the same as on my internal SSD, no problems. I'm inclined to think something is not right with your PC or USB drive.

Similar problem here.
When I have many "remove" points in an image it need minutes to load the image (just shows a gray background for minutes)
Also building previews 1:1 takes an eternity…
I never had these kinds of problems before.

@Maxal Tamor , macOS has been upgraded to version 15 since October 2024, any specific reason you have not upgraded your system?
