Apparently the target collection disappeared after I have renamed the catalog.  What other potential problems will happen after the catalog is renamed ?

Is it possible to get back the target collection if I rename the catalog back to the old catalog name again ?

I am using the 14.1.1  Lightroom Classic windows version.

There should be no consequences IF you renamed it from the Menu within the LrC UI.  [File > Rename Catalog...]

This method was introduced in v14 of LrC.

RENAME A CATALOG

If you renamed in Windows File Explorer then you would have needed to also rename the ancilliary files in a similar fashion - as in this link:

https://www.lightroomqueen.com/find-move-rename-catalog/

A change to the Target Collection should not occur in any catalog renamed (by either method).

It is easy to [Right-Click] on any standard Collection and make it the 'Target Collection'.

Are you sure you have not opened a different catalog that might explain a loss of  the expected Target Collection?.

Edit: If you use Windows desktop shortcuts that reference a particular Catalog, then you would need to change the shortcut also.

Regards. My System: Lightroom-Classic 14.1.1, Photoshop 26.2, ACR 17.1, Lightroom 8.1, Lr-iOS 9.0.1, Bridge 15.0.2, Windows-11.

Thanks to your reply.

I did rename my catalog from the Menu of Lightroom UI, i.e. [File > Rename Catalog...].  I noticed my target collection was gone after Lightroom Classic was opened in the new catalog name.   I don't know why this mishap has happend.

Is it possible that I get back the target collection if I rename the new catalog back to the old catalog name and open Lightroom in the old catalog name ?

What do you mean with 'the target collection is gone'? Lightroom Classic has the Quick Collection, which by default is the target collection (the collection the image is added to if you click on the small grey circle in the upper right corner of use the shortcut). There is no collection called 'Target Collection' however. Any collection can be set as the target collection. So what exactly is gone?
