Crashing "then catalog is in use message"

Lightroom keeps crashing no explanation sends me error reports which ive sent into adobe....thats it. Iam updated all other systems working fine?  Cannot work on images....very very annoying.

known problem? any fixes?

The first thing that you should try is to switch off the GPU support from the Lightroom preferences and check if that helps to fix the issue.

Go to Lightroom > Preferences > Performance tab > Uncheck "Use Graphics Processor" > Restart Lightroom.

Which operating system do you use?

Which version of Lightroom do you use?

See the info at the link below, there is a possibility that a .lock (LOCK) file is preventing your Catalog file from opening. Worth a check.

My PC QR code links to microsoft page telling me its a blue screen error likely caused by an update, its telling me to try uninstalling a recent update which will have been the one from LR this morning. Problem has got worse, crashing and PC automatically restarting cannot import or work in LR at all now......and all my export presets still missing.

lol....now i cannot access LR at all....it does say the catalogue is already in use? Iam not tech savy enough to start removing deleting catalogues i could see yrs worth of image getting lost here!!.....now what?

Delete the file highlighted in yellow, then you should be able to launch Lightroom.

If Lightroom still crashes, please go to Help > system Info, click the Copy button, and paste into a new reply here.

Still crashing...i tried to screen shot the blue screen message....but it didnt save, i suspect the system was beyond saving a screen shot at that time.

Post a screen capture of the Lightroom sub-folder where your Catalog file resides, so other users can what is contained there. Catalog files end with a dot lrcat extension (.LRCAT).

Ok thanks for the screenshot, this shows exactly the info we need. Before proceeding further please do the following, shut down your computer i.e. Power off. Then reboot your computer but do not open any applications.

In the screen capture, you provided the highlighted file is your Catalog file and there is a file with the same name with a .lock extension immediately below that is a LOCK file and it will prevent the Catalog from opening. Using windows explorer see if the file is still present in the Lightroom sub-folder, if so delete the Lock file.

Next double click on the Catalog file, the one you had highlighted in your screen capture, that should open the Catalog file and boot Lightroom Classic.

Please post and let us know if this works.

On your computer go to NVIDIA dot com and do a search for an updated driver, if there are two available one optimized for gaming and one for "Studio" choose Studio.

Update the driver before attempting to boot LrC and make sure there is no LOCK file in place.

Your screenshot of the folder your catalog is in shows a folder called Lightroom Settings, This folder is created when you select to store presets with catalog.

 

So, in preferences, have you selected to store presets with catalog?

If not, perhaps give that a try.

 

This may be from one of your older catalogs. Or it may be that your preference file took a hit upon crash and need to be reset.
