I have just had an update using my MAC and now when i click on mask and then subject / Sky / Background (On Classic) I get the following error  "Something Went Wrong"  "There is an unexpected error and your request could not be completed"   - Basically it cannot find what I need to mask... If i use the brush this works but nothing else.

What Mac are you using, and specificly what GPU does it have? Try disabling the GPU (go to Preferences - Performance and disable 'Use Graphics Processor'). Does that help?

Running an IMAC - MAC OS Sonoma 14.0 - all new 6 months ago so this should not be the problem. It all worked prior to the changes so think its an Adobe issue and might need a bug fix from them.

If there was a bug that prevented you from making masks, then somehow I think you would not be the first one to report it...

First try resetting the preferences: https://www.lightroomqueen.com/how-do-i-reset-lightrooms-preferences/

If that does not work, the try uninstalling and reinstalling Lightroom.
