Lightroom Classic should ask you upon exit for regularily backups. You may disable that feature, but you should not... In addition, you should proceed to backup your userdata at regular intervalls.

Without more info, there is nothing that I can recommend for you to recover your catalog. You should, however, be able to find back your images at a minimum.

When LR updates, it creates a copy of the catalogue and update the copy, leaving your un-updated file safe. Look in your folder, and you should see both.

You also need to give much more information if you need help.

Again, more information will let you get help, if that is what you want.

In which folder was the catalogue?

Do you not backup your catalogue through your regular computer backup?
