Every time I exit lightroom classic it gives me the message that it is syncing 163 photos

It's always 163. It says don't quit if I want it to finish syncing.

I have left it on all day. those 163 (whichever they are?) remain unsynced.  How do I get rid of that message?

Syncing is very flaky in Classic. Really emberassing but that is how it is. It will just stop syncing after a while and there won't be any progress. The solution is to just quit even though it warns against that and restart Classic. It will resume syncing and actually finish in general.
