As a long time Lightroom user and recently, about 60-90 days ago, began to experience extremely long Lightroom Back Up times of several hours to even longer? What previously took 15-20 minutes is a painfully slow process currently? Yes, I restart my IMac daily if not multiple times a day and the external hard drive is defragmented as well? All of the Lightroom and Imac updates appear to be current too.

If you answer the following questions, I can definitely say whether you've tripped over a previous LR bug and, if so, how to recover from it:
1. Do Help > System Info. Which LR version are you running?
2. How many photos are in All Photographs (in the Catalog panel in the right column of Library).
3. Do Catalog Settings > General > Show to open Finder on your catalog folder.
4. In the catalog folder, what does Finder show for the size in bytes of the files <catalog>.lrcat and <catalog>.lrcat-data?
5. In Library, select All Photographs. In the Library Filter bar's Metadata browser, select the column Develop > Has Denoise. How many photos have Denoise applied? It should look like this:
6. Do the same thing for Has Super Resolution -- how many?
