Files won't delete within Lightroom Classic

I've searched for this problem and it's surfaced before but not recently.  I'm a long time LR user and have deleted files easily for years.  For the past two days, when I "x" an image and then go to delete rejected photos, the same commands comes up as it always has but, when i click on delete from disc, nothing happens and no further information shows up.  I've tried the shift-option-xcommand-delete approach and that doesn't move them either.
