Freezing when using GPU

Hello, long time LR user since V1. Shooting as professional for over 14 years, in LR just about everyday.

I always wait to update a good 6 months or in some cases a year, been my go to plan for many years with Adobe products. Waited go jump to LR 11 from LR 10, did it just a few weeks ago. Now regretting the update from 10.x to 11.1. It's just been glitchy, frezzing at times if I make too many moves too fast (I work fast and LR has always been able to keep up) or when exporting, randonly looses previews on some images and nothing I try seems to bring them back, the little circle down at the bottom showing GPU status spinning endlessly. I rolled back from 11.1 to 11.0.1 - we shall see....

Turning off use GPU for image processing seems to be what makes it all work better. Over the years the whole added GPU thing has been mostly problematic, never really worked correctly when it was first introduced, they finally seemed to get it worked out in LR 10 - the most stable version IMHO. I do like some of the new features in LR11, masking has been the biggest improvment IMO. Suppose it's GPU for processing turned off going forward - again. Dunno what difference it (GPU feature) really makes hmm?, lets hope it's not at the sacrifice of working at a fast pace. I often have 4-5 shoots in editing phases (600-1000 raws per shoot) any given month, working at speed is a top priroty.

Post not intended to arrive at any conclusion per-se - just offering up my currently situation.

As you are not running 4K, the use GPU option does not accomplish much if anything.

Your GPU is approaching ancient, a series 800 would be ancient. If you had a series 800, I would advise to defiantly not use the GPU option, been known to make things worse.

One possible issue, especially if you turn thst use GPU back on, your GPU driver, v497.09 is out of date. Current would be v511.65

Also available hard disk free space for operating system and file storage would be helpful.

What is the capacity of your SSD and how much "free space" is available there?
You will begin to experience performance issues if the % drops to 20% or lower.

e.g. SSD 1 TB you need a min of 200 GB of free disk space.

See the screen capture for some more tips.
