Help with image selection

Hey all!  When im in lightroom develop, I select an image, it automatically selects  the folling image as well.  How do I stop this from happening.

I somehow selected compare while I was creating a collection, and had to unselect it while in library mode.  I was trying to figure it out in develop.  Silly
