How import as lossy DNG?

Explorer ,
May 10, 2025 May 10, 2025

I know I can import photos from camera as DNG.

But lossy DNG seem very useful. Its basically visually lossless and takes much less space.

Can I set Lightroom to import files as lossy DNG?

Thanks.

I don't think you can. You could use Adobe DNG Converter to convert the images and then import them in Lightroom.

You can do this with these steps:

1. Import the raws into LR (as raws).

2. Click on Previous Import.

3. Select all the photos and do Library > Convert Photo To DNG, with the options Use Lossy Compression and Delete Originals After Successful Conversion.

In a quickie test with a Hasselblad X2D 100C raw, the raw file was 206 MB and the DNG 40 MB!
