How much HD space for Preview Folder?

I am migrating from my desktop to a laptop with a 1 TB SDD drive.

I noticed that I am already running of hard drive space on the laptop. After some sleuthing it seems that my

"Lightroom Catalor Previews.lrdata" file is using about 517 GB of space.

Is this normal? What can I do to reduce that size file?

There are options in Lightroom Classic that determine the size of your previews (you can reduce the size from 1:1 previews to standard previews) and also how long they are kept (you have Lightroom Classic delete them after 1 month, for example).

All of this is a tradeoff between using disk space, and using the CPU to regenerate previews as needed (which slows you down).
