How to add the Leica Q to the lens corrections profile in the Develop Module in Lightroom Classic?

Hi,  I've imported some images from a Leica Q into Lightroom Classic. Under the Develop Module, when I checked off the lens corrections check boxes for the image I see, it has the Leica for a phone, Leica M, R, S, but no Leica Q listed. Does anyone know how to add the Leica Q profile to the Lightroom Classic program please? Tx.

In the Lens Corrections panel, click on the "i", and you'll see that the camera has embedded Leica's lens profile in the raw, and LR has applied it automatically:

Hi John,  Thanks for your reply and your suggestion. I looked where you indicated and there was no "i" at the bottom. I'm wondering if I need to download this profile somewhere from Adobe? Tx.

In Develop, double-check you are editing a raw by typing "i" until you see the file name appear in the upper-right corner of the image. Nearly all lens profiles (including the ones embedded by cameras) are for raws only -- you won't see an embedded lens profile for JPEGs, since the camera has already applied it before creating the JPEG.

Thanks John. I followed your suggestion and the file name that came up appears to be a raw file "IMG_0963.CR2"

Hi John, in a chat with Adobe, it appears that the latest listing as of Dec 2024 for camera profiles, the Leica Q, Q2, and Q3 don't have a recognized camera raw profile in LRC yet.  It seems to me that the image can only be processed by converting it to DNG file and then going from there. I had LR 5 from years ago and my Leica Q wasn't in the camera profiles then, so I purchased LRC on line thinking that surely the camera profile must be added now given the camera was from 2015, but no.

Hi John, I found the memory card in question for the Leica Q and it had some images on it from before and some newer ones. I downloaded them into LRC. The images are DNG as per the i. In the library module, it shows the Leica Q!  I went into the develop module and clicked on enable profile corrections and it came up with "built in".? I checked the drop down tab and again, no Leica Q, but only other models... So I'm half way there. I guess "built in" is better than nothing or what I thought was before and hopefully that should be okay to edit and process these images. The other photos in question, my mistake, were taken with my old Canon camera, I converted them to DNG and thought they were with the Leica when they weren't.

Right, as discussed above, that indicates that the camera has embedded Leica's lens profile into the raw file, and LR has automatically applied it:

There's nothing for you to do -- the lens corrections have already been made.

Thank you John for all your help, I really appreciate it. I definitely need to spend some quality time to get my folders, photos sorted and organized properly as they are just a mess.

"IMG_0963.CR2"

That CR2 is a raw from a Canon.  Raws from a Leica Q camera will end in DNG. You can also see the make and model of the camera by selecting the photo in Library and looking in the Metadata panel:

johnrellis_0-1737680844012.png

If you select a Leica Q DNG and go to Lens Corrections, you should see "Built-in Lens Profile applied" at the bottom of the panel. Since Leica raws are already in DNG format, there's no need to convert them.

Adobe support isn't giving you good information. Adobe rarely provides lens profiles for cameras like the Leica Q that embed the profiles in the raw files.

Thanks John. I went back into the folder/collection in LRC and found that for some reason, there are duplicate photos, one CR2 for Canon as you said and the other a DNG, which is for the Leica camera as you indicated. I didn't know why there were duplicates and thought I had coverted the photos to DNG prior. I had LR 5 and had to convert images given the old program wouldn't recognize my newer cameras. Anyway, went into library module and checked the DNG image. It says Canon, Canon 80D and 24-105 EF lens used, but it also shows that I converted the image using Adobe DNG converter to DNG. Under the develop module, I checked off lens correction and it came up with Canon, Canon 80D and when I checked the drop down box, it had Leica, but not the Leica Q.  Now that I think about this, I'm wondering if using LR5, it not having a profile and thought it was a CR2 file, then I converted it to DNG, there is no way for the LRC to identify it... Maybe if I use the Leica Q take a photo, download it into LRC, maybe I'll see the Leica Q in the camera profile and if its a DNG...

I'm going to see if I can find the memory card with the original images, import/download into LRC and see if they are DNG files or as mentioned take some photos using the Leica to see..
