I'm running LR Classic V 13.4 on Windows 10. When I try to import from a card in my camera (I have two), the import dialog begins to show the photos on the card, then it crashes LR. I can import from my computer HD without issue and Windows file explorer can access my cards without issue. Disabling the GPU doesn't help.

Please go to the Help menu in Lightroom Classic, then System info and copy the text. You can paste the text here as a reply or paste it in a text file and share the file with us.
Are you using a card reader to connect the SD cards? If yes, have you tried with a different card to see if that makes a difference?
You can try to reset the preferences of Lightroom using the steps mentioned here: https://adobe.ly/2JSym5e
Please backup your presets prior to resetting the preferences.

I am not using a card reader. I have tried two different cards in two

presets? I backed up the Lightroom folder before I rest preferences, then
restored it, but that didn't work.

If you backed up your preferences, replacing the new folder that was created with the backup should work.
For the issues you're experiencing, try updating Lightroom Classic to 13.5.1 or to the latest version 14.0.1 and let us know how it goes!

Thanks for checking and sorry that didn't work! Just out of curiosity, have you tried connecting the camera to another USB port on the computer? If not, it's worth a shot.

The problem persists with two different cameras, cables and USB ports (one
usb-a, one usb-c).
