Import doesn't handle aliases

When importing from MacOS, an alias to an image file is called "unsupported or damaged" by Lightroom.  Why can't it follow an alias to the file it referrs to, like every other image handling app?

When I import a folder with MacOS aliases to image files, LR reports that they are "unusable or damaged" and won't import them.  Instead, LR should dereference the alias and import the image file it points to.

Adobe decided not to allow this.

An alias is a shortcut for the Finder. If you open an alias, then the Finder will follow the path in the alias and open the file (with the application that started the action). Lightroom Classic does not (only) open the image on import, it creates a link to the image in its catalog. The Finder has no involvement with this however, and that is why it does not work. The link will be to the alias rather than to the original image.
