Import marking every picture as new, even when already in catalog on Mac

For some reason, when I try to import pics into Lightroom Classic, LRC sees all files as new, even when they are already in my catalog (even with the same SD card).

After doing some investigation:

  • Verified that files that the system said were new were already in the catalog.
  • Some (not sure if all) of the file names were identical named the same (Picture1.nef- Picture of a house..... Picture1.nef - Pic of the Chicago River.  The files are in different folders and are both in the catalog.

Has anyone encountered this problem and, if so, how was it resolved?

When you import, on the right hand side there is an option that says "Don't Import Suspected Duplicates". Make sure that box is checked.
