Import to LR and Rename in LR

Explorer ,
Feb 07, 2024 Feb 07, 2024

I have several files in my photo archive that LR will not import. I have tried to rename them and try importing, however, LR will not allow them to be renamed. Renaming is not possible from Windows Explorer either.

I hope someone can help resolve this. Let me know what additional information you may need.

Thank you.

Mike

Would a file be "in use" even after shutting the computer done (not restart), then starting it? I then open LR and try to sync the folder containg the photos with the same success. I'll be working on some photos today and will attampt to save them from PS the sync folder in LR. Maybe that will shed some light.

Which type of photo doesn't import in LR?

Do you get an error message? If yes please post the message word-by-word.

Which version of lightroom do you use?

My System: Intel i7-8700K - 64GB RAM - NVidia Geforce RTX 3060 - Windows 11 Pro 25H2 -- LR-Classic 15 - Photoshop 27 - Nik Collection 8 - PureRAW 5 - Topaz Photo

I am attempting to import PSB files saved in PS.

I've used both the Sync Folder and Import options in LR with the same result. In the Sync Folder option it shows there are six new photos to import but after running through its sync process a message stating no photos or videos were found to import.

I'm useing LR Classis 13.1 and Camera Raw 16.1

If unable to rename the files then it's possible that you're actually using Lightroom Desktop (i.e. cloud version of Lightroom) rather than Lightroom Classic. Can you confirm which?

PSD and PSB File Compatibilty preference is on. File was saved in PS and the file size is 5760 pixels X 8640 pixels. I have many files of comparable size that were saved in PS and imported to LR Classic.

If renaming is not possible within Windows Explorer then this directs the blame away from LrC, since LrC merely references files internally, and relies on instructions to the OS for external operations such as renaming - just the same as Window Explorer does.

Perhaps the files concerned are indicated "in use" somehow, or the containing folder. One common issue is if Windows Explorer happens to be clicked onto a file with the Preview pane active. This alone can be sufficient to keep a file 'in use' and so prevent renaming that. More so of course, if the file has just been opened in e.g. PS. Sometimes even if a file's closed within the application, it is not 'released' until that application is fully closed. For example I've found this sometimes with a 'save as': one is now IN the new file, but the old file may not immediately be let go of.  Occasionally even, after a glitch of some sort, not until Windows signs out and back in - depending on the particular nature of file system you are connecting to.

Definitely not 'in use' after shutting down or restarting computer. But - OneDrive syncing?

I don't use One-Sync so that shouldn't be the proble. I beleive there is something related to the files I'm trying to sync since I have been able to sync folders successfully all day yesterday (but not the files giving me trouble). I'm going to go back to the raw files for those and start over again and see what happens.
