Importing jpg automatically?

When I save an image in PhotoShop as a jpg,  it does not automatically transfer into my catalog in LightRoom.  I have to manually import jpg images.

Is there a setting that will auto-import into Lightroom?

In fact, sometimes my TIFF images don't auto-import either.

Advice please.

You did not state if you started this process from Lightroom Classic.

Were you trying to Edit in Photoshop from LrC?

If you instruct Lightroom Classic to "Edit in Photoshop" (making a new image version which refers to a separate file on disk, different from the starting imported Raw etc), there are two ways this can happen.

1. If LrC and PS are not fully compatible, or if you otherwise so choose, LrC can be responsible for creating a new separate file on disk and then instructing PS to open that up for editing. Even if you then exit PS without saving at all, this new file already existed definitively on disk and had already been imported to LrC before PS ever saw it.
2. The more usual method is for LrC to send instructions to PS for opening a new provisional image version ready to be edited. At this point no file at all has yet been saved to disk, and the document title in PS therefore still refers to the original LrC-imported filename and file type - for example, it may report the name of a Raw (which is not the kind of thing that can "really" be opened directly into PS nor then have changes saved to it). Accordingly, the moment you go to Save (the first time) PS prompts you for a 'definitive' location and file name and file type. LrC has supplied a default suggestion for all of these matters, but you can override that suggestion if you like. A file is then saved, and PS communicates back to LrC what has been implemented as the 'definitive' source file for this external edit. LrC then imports that automatically. If you close unsaved, nothing has been saved to disk and there is then nothing for LrC to import.

Any image inside PS which came to be in any other way than because LrC was its front-end originator, LrC accordingly does not know anything about. Examples of such circumstances include:

• you created it from scratch in PS
• you did a Save As of something already open in PS, that was itself already saved to disk
• you duplicated an image document within PS
• Export or Save for Web / etc  in PS - something equivalent to Save As, in effect
• you opened an image file from disk using PS directly
• you opened a Raw file from disk using PS directly, which opened the ACR window, and via that into PS
• you used Bridge, or similar DAM application, to send an image file / Raw file into PS for editing
