I've been using LRC for a couple years.  When I import photos they used to go into a folder structure like this:

>2021

   >2021-01-01

   >2021-01-02

...

   >2021-05-03

etc....

lately this has been happening:

>2021

     >2021

           > 2021-05-22

           > 2021-05-23

screenshot attached....

Your Import options may have changed.

Do NOT select (highlight) the 2021 Folder in the Destination panel.!

Instead select the 'Parent' folder above 2021 (Pictures? Photos?) Then you will get this-

>PICTURES/PHOTOS

     >2021

          >2021-01-01

          >2021-01-02

Any 'Date Format' option that contains a forward slash /  will automatically find the correct 2021 folder under the master parent to import the 2021 photos-
