I have just installed the latest version of lightroom onto my PC (windows) and it can not find a lot of my photographic files to import them, even although they are on my computer. Please help.

Lightroom (Lr icon) or Lightroom Classic (LrC icon)? What version NUMBER?
Is there an error message? If so, please quote the exact unedited word-for-word error message. If not, show us screen captures of the problem.
What file type(s) are these files that you want to import?

Hello debbie,
Did you have an earlier version and updated or thie is a new install?
As DJ mentions - there are two difference options of Lightroom: Classic - LrC (which stores files locally) and Lightroom - Lr (which stores files in the cloud.
Tell us a bit more and we can get you underway....

I don't see any screen captures. Please re-send, and use the "Insert Photos" icon, do not attach files.

Lightroom Classic is having problems with photos on One Drive. I believe the photos have to be on a local drive rather than "in the cloud".
Other than that, I have no experience with photos located on a cloud drive, and so I will leave it there, I'm sure others can help.

If you are sending your screenshots to this posting via email, then that will not work.
I see no screenshots, neither via the insert photo option (preferred) nor the attachment button.
A screenshot that might be helpful is of the Import screen.

I installed it new. I already have Photoshop and Lightroom installed and they import with no problems but Lightroom Classic will not.
By Lightroom installed (previously) do you mean the cloudy one?The lesser Lr that stores photos on the cloud and uses an album on the cloud? Currently v 5.3.
Your Lightroom Classic, currently v 11.3, did you have a previous version installed?

I am trying to understand the problem.
If you imported to Lightroom (the Cloud version)- then your files are in the Adobe Cloud storage (eco-system).
(There may be cached 'copies' on your hard drive- but NOT the originals.)
If Lightroom-Classic Sync was activated then ALL those files in the Cloud would already be IN the LrC Catalog- and thus cannot be 'imported' a second time.
So they went: Local > Cloud > Lr mobile > sync to LrC.

Please post your System Information as Lightroom Classic (LrC) reports it. In LrC click on Help, then System Info, then Copy. Paste that information into a reply. Please present all information from first line down to and including Plug-in Info. Info after Plug-in info can be cut as that is just so much dead space to us non-Techs.

One of your screens captures show that you are attempting to import images from a sub-folder called Camera Roll, we're you previously using a Mac Computer?
As far as I am aware that naming is used on Mac computer iPhones and iPad.
PS. Ok I learned it's also introduced in Win 10, maybe that folder is proprietary to the Photos application?

I made an edit to my earlier post and you may wish if it is possible to import from the Camera Roll folder.
