How do you import into Lightroom and store only on an external hard drive? It’s saving to my Macintosh HD and External HD

Importing from where?
Importing from a Camera ( or card via USB)- use [COPY] in the import dialog and set the Destination to a folder on the External drive.
What do you mean by- "It’s saving to my Macintosh HD and External HD" ? Have you set the Import to make a "Second Copy"?
