Invalid File Path Error

I switched recently from my main editing machine being a PC to a Macbook Pro.  I transferred all of my photos and my lightroom catalog to an external hard drive and then to the Mac.  The catalog opens just fine except for one thing.  On the PC I had a network drive added which stores video files (which are included in my catalog). When I went to tell Lightroom on the Mac where the network share is I get an error every time which states "An internal error has occured.  Invalid file path.".

 

Can someone please help me get past this problem?

When I went to tell Lightroom on the Mac where the network share is I get an error every time which states "An internal error has occured. Invalid file path.".


What are the exact steps you followed? Please explain in detail. Also, you may have to authorize access by changing a security setting on Macs, please search this forum for details.

I have made sure the file and folder settings are correct.  I have seen previous threads re: this same issue and have tried everything recommended.  This includes opening finder and adding a connection to the share (aka mapping like in windows).  The longest thread on this forum basically ended up with people having to downgrade their catalog.  I am trying to avoid that.

 

I can't even remove the folder in question.  Clicking on the minus symbol or right clicking and selecting remove do nothing.

I have made sure the file and folder settings are correct.

 

This is a global security setting, not a setting on one file or one folder. I do not know the details as I don't use Mac computers.

Yes, I understand.   I have gone into the mac privacy and security settings and made sure Lightroom had proper access to files and folders.  It is not a rights issue.  There is a bug.

 

As to your original question, I am attempting to right click on the folder of the shared drive in question to tell Lightroom where it is located.  This has worked seemlessly before when I've transferred to a new PC.  This seems unique to transferring a catalog from PC to Mac with a shared drive.

Hmmm, actually no I dont remember specifically doing that yet.  I have not seen that one yet.  I did do the files and folders part.  I will give that a shot when I get home from work.  Thanks.

For anyone who may stumble upon this thread, the "solution" can be found here:

After almost 2 hours of tech support help the end result was that I had to open my catalog on a windows machine and map the network share to a drive letter and update it in lightroom.  I then saved it back to my mac and reopened the catalog and was able to update the folder location.

 

The Adobe support agent and I disagreed over whether that was a bug (which I am adament it is) or just a common symptom of network shares.  EIther way, I still have my catalog in tact and didn't lose anything (besides a few hours of messing with this), so all's well.

Contact Adobe. This via a Chat. Before doing so, prepare your notes and information ahead of time as to be more efficient in communicating. Your info that you have posted in your Discussion is a start for the description, and probably have a copy of your LrC /Help/System Info/ as a text document on hand, so that you can paste or attach that into the chat.

 

To accomplish the Chat, bring up an Adobe webpage, and click on the Chat button. (see image below) This will start a Chat. At first the Chat will be with a chatbot, Typing “Agent” into the chat text field will bypass the initial chatbot. If an agent does not enter the chat then be assertive in requesting an actual Adobe Tech join in the chat.

 

In the Chat include (as mentioned above) a description of the issue, and probably your System Info. And include a link to your discussion.

 

You may want to ask for a phone call.

 

And please keep notes so that you can share them in your post for others to see.

 

For example, bring up:

and click on the Chat button, typically found in bottom right corner

I do not have this issue. 

I share a NAS between Windows and Mac and transport a catalog in between. 
The Mac is set up as an SMB share
The Windows machine is set up as Mapped to a drive letter. 
As long as the SMB Share is mounted, the Mac finds it with no issue. 

You don't mention how your 'network drive' is configured so it is hard to say what is needed here.  Contacting support is a good option.

I run an unraid server on my network and share this particular folder via SMB.  I will contact support.
