JPEG Edits Disappear After Update — History Intact, Sliders Reset

New Here ,
Jun 29, 2025 Jun 29, 2025

After updating to Lightroom Classic 14.4, I opened my working catalog and discovered that edits to many JPEG files had disappeared. Here's what I experienced:

  • The History panel still shows all my previous adjustments

  • But the Develop sliders are all reset, and the image preview is unedited

  • This only affected JPEGs, not RAW files

  • My catalog had been functioning perfectly before the update

I confirmed this is a 14.4 issue by:

  • Opening a backup catalog in 14.3.1 — all edits displayed correctly

  • Returning to the most recent catalog (used in 14.4), the edits were still invisible

  • Even importing metadata into the edited files didn’t fully restore them in the 14.4 catalog

This is extremely disruptive. I'm a professional photographer, and this issue caused me to:

  • Waste hours trying to recover edits

  • Lose recent work from the broken catalog

  • Downgrade my software just to get things working again, and lost edits between my last backup and the broken catalog

System Info:

  • Lightroom Classic 14.4 (Build: 202506051112-5918896a)

  • macOS 14.7.6 (Apple M3)

  • JPEG files

  • Catalog stored on external SSD

Please investigate and issue a fix as soon as possible. I also believe some form of compensation is appropriate given the time lost and the impact on my professional work.

Hey, @julesmiranda. Welcome to the Lightroom Community. I understand this must be frustrating. I'll help you figure this out.

Please update to Lightroom Classic v14.4 again and try this:

1 - Create a new catalog by holding the Opt key at the launch of Lightroom Classic.

2 - Go to File > Import from catalog > target your old catalog. Proceed with merging the previous catalog into the newly made, internal storage-based catalog. For more help via video-based steps, check here. See https://adobe.ly/3NTC9Rv

Let me know how it goes. Thanks!

One possibility is that you have (perhaps accidentally) two catalogs, you edited the photos in one catalog and then upgraded the other catalog.

Here is a recent example of a user who had two catalogs without realizing it, and he insisted he had edited the photos but now saw no edits on those photos after the upgrade. https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-classic-discussions/all-my-lrc-edits-seem-to-have-disappear...
