Keywords are being added to all images in a collection.

LrClassic 13.1  - Windows 10

When adding a keyword to a single selected image in grid view the keyword is being added to all images in the collection.

Is there a settting somewhere that controls this?  If there is, I can't seem to find it.

I can think of a possibility: You have accidentally selected all photos in the collections before adding the keyword, and this is causing the problem.

Other than that, I don't see how it can happen that all photos in the collection get the keyword.

I explicitly did a Ctrl-D to unselect all images before selecting the single image 😞

Okay, smart move! Exactly what steps did you follow to assign the keyword after that?

Complete story 🙂

I noticed a collection had completely the wrong set of keywords.  Not sure how that happened.

I selected all images and cleared the keywords.

Ctrl-D, then Ctrl-A to deselect and reselect.

Added a city to the images - no issues.

Ctrl-D to deselect all images.

Selected 4 images that had the same people in it.

Added the names for those 4 images.

The people showed up in all images.

Ctrl-D then Ctrl-A to select all images.

Deleted keywords from all images.

Ctrl-D to deselect all images.

Selected a single image.

Added a city.

City shows up in all images.

Added people to the single image.

The people showed up in all images.

Just did another check,

Removed the keywords from a single image.  They keywords disappeared for all images in the collection.

Also Looked under Metadata -> Enable Auto Sync and it is not checked, but acts as if it is.

Ok, I'm stumped, I don't know why it is doing this. I am unable to replicate this on Windows 11, LrC 13.1

I closed and restarted Lightroom and it seems to have resolved itself.

Admittedly, LrC is running most of the time, and the Lightroom directory is backed up nightly.  I will occasionally close and restart it so it does its own backup/optimization.  I was also have some weird issues with publishing to SmugMug, but not sure if that is resolved as well.

Something weird is going on with keywords.

If I look into the image file the keywords are correct in the dc:subject and lr:hierarchicalSubject tags.

For that image, if I select Metadata->Read Metadata from File the keywords are not updated.
