I'm used to having a filter bar above the thumbnails in the Grid View that allows me to search my photos by metadata, camera, lens, etc. It was on the same row with the Library/Develop/Print selection. It always used to come up whenever I selected all photos with a given keyword in the Keyword listing on the right side to allow me finer selection criteria. (There were also selections there for virtual vs. real photos. The star and color ratings are still in another tool bar below the thumbnails.) Now it no longer does. What do I do to get it back? Permanently! -- JCW2

Press backslash (\)
Or use the menu command View->Show Filter Bar
There's no way to make it permanent

If you have enabled the visibility of the filter bar, then the bar should remain visible as long as you do not turn it off again.

All -- Thanks much for the answer, as well as the very useful link to Laura Shoe! The "\" did indeed work for me, but why?
I had already made sure that "View->Show Filter Bar" was turned on. In fact I had turned it off and on again to no avail. Only when I hit the "\" key did the Library Filter options return! What gives?! -- JCW2
