Probably paying the price for sticking with the standalone version 6 and not backing up enough, but... at the moment my most recent catalog isn't opening, and I'd really like to get it open and not have to resort to a several-months-old backup.

  • Lightroom 6.14
  • Macbook Pro 2016, OS Catalina 10.5.16

Current situation: Program opens to an empty catalogue. If I hold the Option key on opening and choose the most recent catalogue, I get the spinning wheel of death and eventually the message that Lightroom Quit Unexpectedly.

When I open another older catalogue, it opens for a moment and still quits.

I'm most definitely confused as to which files go with which catalogue, and I have a huge 211-Gigabyte Smart Previews file that I just realized isn't even the one I've been using lately.....

I know I sound all over the place, and I kind of am. I just want my photos back. What's my first step?

Pardon my French in the photos 😉 ... I'm a French teacher.

First thing to try when LR crashes is resetting preferences:
