I currently have Lightroom 6 on my hp laptop and my desktop which won't turn on anymore and the laptop is starting to have issues and is old. I am looking at replacing it with a MacBook. I still have the serial number for my Lightroom 6. Can I use it on my MacBook since my desktop won't turn on? Does it matter if I bought the pc version?

What is the CPU on that MAC? (Apple CPU as opposed to Intel, as in M1, would be an issue)
What is the MACOS on that MAC (Catalina and newer would be an issue).

Important that you note this-
Lr6 ...will not install in Mac iOS (BigSur, Catalina, Monterey, & Ventura, or the next iOS release!)
See this link for more- ! SOME FACTS
Basically, only a subscription to the Photography Plan will get you "Lightroom" on a new Mac. ie. Lightroom-Classic v12.5

As stated by others, the only way to use your existing Lr 6 catalog on a new M2 Mac is to subscribe to Lightroom Classic 12.5 (which is available through the Adobe Photography Plan, $9.99 US Dollars plus tax, monthly and NOT the Adobe Lightroom Plan). There are so many new features in LrC 12.5 compared to Lr 6 that the difference in image quality is striking. I would never want to go back to Lr 6. Plus most of us think its a great value as you get Photoshop, Bridge and Adobe Camera Raw and a few other things as well, all for the $9.99 / month.
If you don't like subscriptions (which is fine, its your choice), you can download the 7-day free trial of LrC 12.5, use that to export all of your work from the Lr 6 catalog for use outside of Lr 6, and then remember to cancel the free trial before the 7 days expire.

What ever you do, be sure to back up your catalog to an external drive or memory stick, NOW. It is a file or files that end with .lrcat.
