The external hard drive on which I stored my photos failed. Although I could see in LR the catalog that corresponded to the failed external drive, all of the folders / photos were "missing". I bought a new drive, and copied the folders / photos from my backup drive onto my new external drive. I foolishly assigned the name of my failed external drive to my new external drive. Then I started going through my folders in the old catalog, clicked on "Find Missing Folder", and linked the folders to the new external drive. About half-way through this process, I realized that when it comes to LR automatically backing up my catalog, I won't know which catalog is being backed up if both the old catalog and the new catalog have the same name. (The backup files are on my Mac computer hard drive.) How can I resolve this?
Assigning the same name IS the RIGHT thing to do IF you are using a Mac.
If you are using a Windows PC that new external drive needs to have the same Drive Letter that was using on the original drive.
You might have to Manually Assign the proper letter to that drive.

At one point, you speak of drive failing and naming the new drive to be the same as the old drive. But then you talk about old catalog having the same name as the new catalog. So which is it? Drive or catalog?
