Lightroom catalog display weirdness

Shown in image below, LR is showing every year thru 2020 correctly - as a parent folder that can be drilled into for individual dates...but 2021 it doesn't show the parent "2021" folder, instead displaying only the next level down: individual dates.  The Adobe tech folks couldn't figure it out.  Using LR Classic and Windows. The file structure is correct on the HD, per Explorer.  Any ideas would be appreciated!

How odd! The "2021" with downward facing arrow is invisible... Have you tried creating a new folder, perhaps 2021. or 2021- (with a dot or dash), then drag the subfolders into that new main folder? It's not elegant, and doesn't address the real problem of the invisible year, but at least you will be able to collapse the folder and it will act like all the other yearly folders you have set up.

Thanks for the thoughts - I have not tried creating a new folder because the 2021 parent folder already exists on the PC.  Weirder still, there's a secondary listing for the HD all my photos are on - with certain 2021 subfolders under that group, while most and all new ones are showing up (at least) under the main catalog group - albeit without their parent folder name.
So dang weird!
Something is broken in LR's configuration, but the techs at Adobe couldn't figure it out.  Shy of redoing my entire catalog, unless someone has seen and fixed this exact issue before, think I'll just live with it.
Thanks again for responding!

Right-click one of the 2021 subfolders and do Show Parent Folder. The "2021" folder should then appear.

It might be the "capitalisation" problem. To check, hover the cursor over one of the 2021-mm-dd subfolders and wait until a pop-up appears which contains the full path of the folder. Note this down, taking great care to ensure you have the correct upper and lower case of each character. Then do the same for the 2020 year folder and compare the results, looking for a case difference in one or more letters somewhere in the full path.

Thanks for your reply!  If I do, in fact, find case differences - what's the corrective action?
