Lightroom Catalog Update - Frozen/Not Responding

How long should a Lightroom Catalog Update take? Mine has been 'frozen' since about 10 hours ago when I started it with no progress showing, however I can see in file folder that it created a temporary repaired catalog file that is growing in size but if that has to match my original catalog size I am thinking this would take literal days to update, the original catalog size is around 7gb. Is it safe to cancel and try it again with that file building or should I just leave it?

Welcome to the Lightroom Classic community. I'd love to help you figure this out.

Upgrading the catalog database can take some time, depending on many factors. Where is your catalog stored, internal or external drive?
If the catalog is stored on an external drive, move it to the internal drive and try upgrading it again. Also, try upgrading a backup catalog from a recent date.

Let me know how it goes,

Thanks!

I just had a similar issue. Even the window prompt for updating the catalog (after the newest Lightroom Classic update) froze. I could not even click on the "update" button.

In the catalog folder there was an empty lock-file and the catalog itself had the current time/date. But nothing happened.

The only "solution" was to close Lightroom in the Task Manager and deleting the catalog completely...

At all: Always (!) let Lightroom write the XMP files for your RAW images. Never trust this catalog thingy.
