Everytime I use the new generative replace feature in Lightroom 13.3, it progress box freezes towards the end. Finally, a message pops up to suggest a network connection problem. My network connection is fine, as evidenced by the fact that my Adobe apps are able to update themselves and all my other programs have no problem with the network.Screenshot 2024-06-03 Lightroom Classic 13.3 Error.png

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.

Tell us about your Internet connection

  • What sort of Internet provision do you have, Cable ISP, Phone Line ISP (DSL), Cell Phone ISP (Adhoc) , Satellite (Hughes Internet etc)
  • What sort of Router do you use, Cable Modem, DSL, via Cell Phone (Adhoc)
  • How is your computer connected to your Router. Via Ethernet, via WiFi, other?
  • How reliable is your Internet

I ask because in Ref 1, Adobe states "Note: stable Internet connection is required to use this feature."

Most likely a network firewall on your computer, your router, or your ISP incorrectly blocked the network request from LR (they do that sometimes).  See here for how to diagnose where it's happening:

The person in that thread discovered  that in his case, Microsoft Defender was the miscreant -- see here for how to stop Defender from doing that:

Thank you to everyone who responded to my problem. Based on the suggestions, I did two things. First the issue of stability of connection, when I tested the strength of my connection, it was over 600 mbps for downloads and over 200 mbps for uploads. Still I decided to reboot my main router. Second, I looked at the Firewall rules in my Kaspersky Internet Security software. None of the Adobe apps were being blocked. Nevertheless, I went in and explicit set rules to allow all Adobe products access to the internet.

It seems to have worked. So far, after using the generative replace feature in Lightroom for a couple of dozen times, the error message has only appeared twice. So, for now, I consider the problem resolved.

Again, thank you to those who responded so quickly.

Glad you (hopefully) have it resolved. Over the years, I've received very occasional reports of my LR plugins having their network requests incorrectly blocked (the plugins use LR to send their requests) by personal-computer anti-malware firewalls, network routers, ISPs, and authoritarian governments. There's something about LR's network requests that these entities don't like.
