Lightroom Classic almost unuasable since update to 14.2

Since I updated lightroom to version 14.2 it is virtually unusable. It takes forever to launch, it crashes, the masking tools are very slow, and the moving from one thumbnail to another takes forever.

Please go to the Help menu in Lightroom Classic, then System info and copy the text. You can either paste the text here as a reply or in a text file and share the file with us. 

Meanwhile, you can try to reset the preferences of Lightroom using the steps mentioned here: https://adobe.ly/2JSym5e

Please backup your presets prior to resetting the preferences.

The article you linked to is about setting preferences, not resetting.

An article about resetting preferences can be found here:

Resetting the preferences will not delete presets, but it may be a good idea to take screenshots of all the tabs of the preferences dialog before resetting. This will make it easier to restore customized preferences.
