This problem has been proposed before, with a variety of answers.  I tried and tried to import my raw files to Lightroom Classic.  Yes, it was the latest version, a couple of months ago.  The files were automatically converted to DNG.  If I want to try LR again, how can I ensure that I can import my CR2 files instead of converting to DNG?

When you import RAW photos into Lightroom Classic, make sure you are not selecting Copy as DNG in the Import dialog box. Select Copy, this will leave your CR2 files as CR2 and not convert them to DNG.

If I may be so bold as to modify one of the questions asked by @AxelMatt , please tell us the exact Model of your camera.
