Another easy troubleshoothing step: Try deleting the file "metrics.json", following the precise steps here:

Hi Sameer, none of the above work. Also, I have re-installed a fresh copy of Lightroom now, even ditched all my settings. No change. The Lightroom app launches (jumping up and down on my desktop) but then stalls. This is now a real issue as I cannot seem to use the application I subcribe.

Try logging into another Mac user account (you should make a new one); still crashing?
Try starting up in Safe mode (hold down Shift Key when booting*), still crashing?
You might want to try running a free utility like Onyx: still crashing?

This is a different error altogether. I had that years ago. I do not have a catalogue issue... the application as such does not open, so I cannot even make it to the point described in your thread

After several de-installations and complete re-installation LR opens again. I had to re-import the entire catalog of course but I lost all the settings

Did you try opening the existing catalog file?
