Nikon cameras are limited to 4-digit incrementing names, hence, once they reach 9999, they start over at 0001. When this happens during a photo shoot, files are not listed incrementally, which makes editing cumbersome, as one has to constantly scroll to the beginning and the end of hundreds of photos. This happened during the recent solar eclipse, where I was taking 2000 photos for a timelapse.
I used Lightroom's feature to rename files, to arrive at an incrementing naming scheme. I renamed files
from 9000-9999 to 2000-2999
from 0001-1100 to 3001-3100
(all with my same custom 3-digit prefix _JML)
However, Lightroom refused to list those correctly after renaming when choosing FILE NAME sorting, no matter what I did, it kept listing them in their original sequence, with the 3001-3100 showing up first at the top of the list, then the 2000-2999 showing up at the bottom of the listing.
I had to remove the files from the catalog and re-import them to make the listing work correctly.
