Lightroom Classic Import fail

Ever since I downloaded Lightroom Classic (version 14.2) on my new macbook (Apple M2 Pro 2023) I have problems with importing photos from my Nikon D800.

When Importing, some thumbnails show up but the rest remains grey, no matter how long I wait. When clicking import it just says "importing" without actually importing.

I tried de-installing and reinstalling without migrating former catalogs or presets, to see if it works with a clean slate. The problem still remains.

Similar threads suggesting deactivating GPU support, tried this, but it doesn't solve it.

Importing DNG files from an external hard drive does work.

What to do?

I use a card reader attached to a USB port on my Mac Mini M1. Easier,
faster file transmission, and more reliable than a wired hookup to the
camera body. Only costs about $15 from Amazon.

Several things to look at, to try out. Might be mostly diagnostic, but might lead to a direction to look for a proper solution.

1. I see that you are selecting a device as source, not files , the device being your camera. Is this via WiFi, or via a USB cable?
2. Apparently you have the option to show images in subfolders on. And those subfolders are not currently shown (in the screen shot). Are you connecting to the cameras processor, or the card(s)
3. I do  not see any cards (SD or CF) in that screenshots under files, not sure if this is a MACOS vs WINDOS difference, or my memory being foggy. Perhaps another member can add to this or strike down as erroneous
4. Does this behavior continue if you select Copy, instead of Copy as DNG/
5. Does this behavior continue if you use a card reader?

Ok, yes! With a card reader it worked without a problem. Before I used a USB Cable.

So I will change my workflow and start using a reader.
