Hello all. Recently I've noticed that when importing images from an SD card the time it takes to import a relatively small number of images is incredibly slow - around 15-20 minutes for 30 images.
I'm using a MacBook Pro M3. I've checked that graphics processor is turned on, optimised the catalog and checked that everything is updated to the latest version but to no avail. The catalog is stored on the MBP hard drive, not external and import is from SD card to SSD external hard drive.
Any ideas of things to try would be gratefully appreciated.

Sounds like hardware malfunction. Bad card reader, or bad camera card, or possibly malfunction on the hard disk or even motherboard. Try different camera cards, try a different card reader, try importing to a different hard disk.

Thanks for your reply. I tried some test imports after reading your reply. I used three cards, all Sandisk; two 128GB Extreme Pro 200mb/s and one 64GB Extreme Pro 95mb/s. The 64GB card is by far faster at importing the same images than the other two 128GB cards. I'll have a look into the read/write speeds for both but seems like an odd find based from this test.

It's a known bug on Mac that affects the SD card when selected from the 'Devices' section. It has been around for a few versions. The recommended and default selection when SD card is inserted is to use the version shown in 'Files' section. I've attached a screenshot demonstrating where you should select the SD card.
