Hi there I'm using version 11.4 on a new MacBook pro

Lightroom CC. 103 release camera RAW. 13.3. I am assuming this is the
latest as I have only purchased it in the last month.

When chatting with the Adobe on line help he wrote that probably only 1% of
Mac users would need to get their photos for LrC from photos on their Mac.
He had never heard of anyone needing to do it and didnt know how it could
be done. I wouldn't have thought it was that uncommon.
I have unfortunately got the first 6 days of my trip only in photos. So any
help would be appreciated.
I have put the ones I want in a folder and then have them on the Desktop
but this seems a very roundabout way to do it.
Maybe LrC is beyond me. Although the few photos I practiced with looked
fantastic after a bit of tweeking so I am keen to keep trying. many thanks
for your help.

I know Lightroom but have not imported photos from Apple yet.

SO in researching your question I found this from a very knowledgeable John Bearsworth:

  1. Switch to Finder.
  2. Right-click on your Photos library and select Show Package Contents
  3. Drag the Masters folder from inside the Photos package and drop it in Pictures - ie make Masters into a regular folder
  4. In Lightroom, import the Masters folder, choosing Add in the Import dialog

He suggests importing everything, and then forgetting about Photos.

I concur with KentDesign’s advice.

There are also lots of free video tutorials from Adobe from Julieanne Kost dot com online.
