Lightroom Classic Mac 14.5.1 builds previews of imports Very slowly

Photos are transferred to hard drive using AirDrop.

When the folder that contains these photos is imported, previews are created much slower than they have ever been before.

The last import of 425 photos proceeded to 19 of 425, and watited for 5 minutes. Then about 10 minutes later  the import finished.

The catalog does have 640,000 photos

The Mac is a MacPro with 10-Core Xeon and 64 GB of Memory

OS is Sequoia 15.6.1

Storage is a 2TB SSD with 300 GB available

Any idea of the cause?

Please do the LR menu command Help > System Info and copy/paste the entire contents here so we can see exactly which versions of hardware and software LR thinks you're running and important LR options that are set.
