Lightroom Classic no longer opens the most recent folder worked on, only most resent catalog

Until about 6 months ago it has always opened to the most recent folder.  Since then Lightroom Classic started opening the last catalog every single time (I never use catalogs). I have to navigate to the lastest folder and it's time consuming and annoying.

You cannot open LrC without a catalog, so you are using one.

As for the folder issue, try resetting the preferences. The simplest way to do it is method 3 described on this page:
